Principal's Message

Welcome to Dell Rapids Elementary School!

As the principal at DRES, I am extremely grateful to work with a team of tremendously dedicated staff and feel equally as fortunate to work with our amazing students and their families. Together, we work to provide a safe, positive learning environment for all children from early childhood through fourth grade. The DRES staff work to support all learners with rigorous instruction that values and fosters respect for every individual. We strive to uphold our mission of ‘Empowering Each Other to Excel’.

In November 2019, DRES was honored to be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.  That year we were one of 362 schools in the nation given that honor.  With this honor, DRES was recognized as an exemplary high-performing school as measured by state assessments.  It is said that greatness is a lot of small things done well every day.  At DRES, we work hard every day to achieve greatness for our students, staff, and families.

This year we have continued with programs such as Quarrier Kids of Character and You Rock which reinforce the use of strong character traits. Throughout the school year, we also focus on three pillars (Keep our School Safe – Continually Keep Learning – Have Fun) to help us establish a positive school experience. All three pillars are equally important and vital for student success. Our objective is to create a safe and caring atmosphere for all students to learn whether that be in the classroom, at activity, recess, lunch or even coming and going in the hallways.

As a parent/guardian, you are one of the most valuable team members in your child’s education. We encourage you to take an active role in your child’s education at home through regular communication with your child’s teacher(s), assisting with homework, and reading with your student. Together we can establish a positive learning environment that leads to a love of learning for all.

Our goal is that students achieve success as a welcomed and supported part of the DRES community. I look forward to a great school year at DRES! Go Quarriers!!
